Private consultations may be scheduled for 30, 45 or 60 minutes. Longer consults can be specially arranged, as well. Consults may include parents or other caretakers and children, and may include a physical exam for the child, depending upon the needs of the family and the nature of the inquiry. Recommendations, referrals, treatment and follow-up will all be addressed as appropriate. We can, for example, address immunization decisions, questions about circumcision, school problems, alleged psychiatric diagnosis and questions about the use of psychiatric medication, chronic disease management and education, weaning, co-sleeping, developmental concerns and birthing decisions. Our intention is to facilitate a robust dialogue on complex and difficult pediatric issues.Written summaries will be provided. All services are billed hourly. H.E.A.L. is available for speaking
engagements. We have expertise in areas of health care reform,
the role of insurance in shaping healthcare, Medicaid,
problems of access to care, alternative
educational approaches, the overuse of psychotropic drugs in
children and many other topics besides those already
referenced on this site. We can also prepare a topic of your
choice. We can address school and university classes, groups of
health care providers, foster parents, etc.. |
Group workshops serve to inform and allow in
depth discussion on focused topics. Pediatrics 101: This is now an ongoing
monthly series that will serve as the umbrella for other topics.
Common pediatric health problems are addressed such as fever,
diarrhea, 'colic', breastfeeding and diet, sleep habits and
development. Each month, we will choose a focus. This may
include: Breastfeeding in the real
world: The focus here is on both the practical
problems of nursing, such as latching, positioning and cracked
nipples, and on the more complex, cultural issues that affect
breastfeeding duration and success, such as nursing in public
and family pressure to wean. Immunization Decision-Making: The
intention here is to review each 'recommended' vaccine from the
standpoint of efficacy, safety and necessity. Can You Have Too Much Health Care? Here
we examine issues of American medical culture, with
it's emphasis on intervention, technology, diagnostic testing
and pharmaceuticals. I will be happy to focus on any issue that participants have an
interest in. Let me know by email or phone. |
